Position Overview & Specifications

We have an excellent opportunity for a motivated and well-organised individual to contribute to the work of the PGR Support Team in Research Services, by providing administrative support for the training programme undertaken by all postgraduate research students.

You will take a proactive approach to your work and have excellent communication and information
management skills. You need to demonstrate a customer-focussed approach, and an ability to understand and apply rules and policies to help you to advise students and staff. You will have experience of managing your own workload as well as supporting colleagues with theirs. Regular tasks include:

  • Offering advice and guidance to students and staff;
  • Maintaining accurate records, e.g. managing students’ results and scholarship awards;
  • Supporting other team members to deliver events, communications, and initiatives for PGRs and supervisors.
A desire to make a positive contribution to the experience that postgraduate research students have here at Sheffield is essential. Our service is flexible and responsive, and you will help to maintain our reputation as an approachable and expert team. This role offers you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience of student systems and the postgraduate research environment. The role has arisen because the current post-holder is moving into a new specialist role which has been created within the team.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
